Viasea Shipping has announced the introduction of a temporary Cost Recovery Charge in response to significantly increased operational costs resulting from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The company, which provides shipping services across Northern and Southern Europe, emphasised that the measure is necessary to maintain the reliability, efficiency, and stability of its transport network during a period of heightened market volatility.
Viasea Shipping stated that it remains committed to delivering high-quality and sustainable transport solutions while continuing to support customers across its service routes.
Cost Recovery Charge Details
The temporary charge will apply under the following conditions:
Effective Date: All cargo loaded from 12 March 2026
Applicable Shipments: All cargo loaded on any Viasea Shipping service
Cost Recovery Amount:
€60 per TEU for standard shipments
€120 per TEU for cargo transported between Norway/Baltics and Iberia
According to the company, the charge has been introduced solely to offset the extraordinary operational costs currently affecting the global shipping industry.
Ongoing Review
Viasea Shipping confirmed that the situation remains fluid and that the Cost Recovery Charge will be continuously reviewed. The charge may be adjusted or removed entirely as operating conditions improve.
The company also acknowledged that pricing adjustments can present challenges for customers and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with partners to minimise the impact wherever possible.
Viasea Shipping will be contacting customers directly with further details regarding the implementation of this charge. In the meantime, customers with questions or requiring additional clarification are encouraged to reach out to their local Viasea Shipping representative.
